If you're travelling primarily for academic purposes, i.e. to attend a college or participate in academic or scholastic events/programs, you must apply for a Schengen Student Visa.

What is a Schengen Student Visa?

A kind of short stay (Type-C) visa allowing you access to the Schengen area for up to 90 days within a 180-day period for study purposes.

Required Documents for Schengen Student Visa

In addition to the Basic of Schengen Visa Application Requirements, applicants for Schengen Study Visas should submit the following materials:

  • Proof of acceptance/official, formal invitation to a specific Schengen academic institution (college, university, etc.) with detailed information about the specific nature of your program (such as your intended major/area of study, proof of course enrollment) length of program, accommodation, how you intend to pay for your education, etc.
Who Can Apply for a Schengen Visa in India?

The EU countries have established their embassies, consulates and visa application centers all around India, which are responsible for the admission and procession of visa applications made by Indians. However, not everyone can apply for a Schengen visa in India.

Only the following are eligible to file their visa applications at the Schengen embassies / consulates / VACs in India

  • Indian passport holders
  • Nationals of third-world countries, which are required to obtain a visa to Europe, living in India under a permanent or temporary residence permit

The Schengen Visa Scheme allows students to visit all of the participating countries in the Schengen area using just one visa. These countries are Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, The Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland etc.
